Sustainability

Values

Our business will never be more important than someone’s health and well-being. We are committed not only to sustaining our own business, but to supporting our partners — farmers, mills, suppliers and manufacturers — in every way we can. We feel that the best way to do this is by building trust, developing long-term relationships, and establishing a supply chain that is mutually beneficial for all involved, while making as little impact as possible on our climate.

Fabrics

All fabrics and trims are sourced with their environmental impact front of mind.

Much of the Fall 23 collection is deadstock fabric, meaning it is surplus to the requirement of the original user and has been onsold as remnants. As a small business, it is often difficult to meet the minimum order requirements from mills and fabric suppliers. Thankfully the deadstock marketplace has provided an opportunity for us to expand our offering, whilst not actually producing any new fabric.

We also work with The Hemp Foundation to source the best quality fabrics from the remote Himalayan villages of Uttarakhand, India. The Hemp Foundation is dedicated to connecting hemp farmers in these communities to business opportunities and restoring biodiversity to the region. Read more about their work here.

On average, hemp needs less than half of the water required for cotton[1], and uses significantly less land area than both cotton and flax (linen)[2]. It does not require chemical intervention (such as pesticides or fertilisers) to grow successfully, and is naturally resistant to pests, bacteria, mould and mildew. Hemp has up to six times the tensile strength of cotton, which means it is extremely strong and durable, making for longer-lasting garments[3].

Production

Our garments are designed and manufactured in Sydney.

We are currently working on a made to order basis. Any future production will be in limited runs and responsive to customer demand. We do not follow the fashion calendar.

Where possible, biodegradable TENCEL™ thread is used in production in place of polyester thread.

We keep our use of trims and interlinings to an absolute minimum. Where they are required, we do our best to opt for trims with recycled content (e.g zips, elastic) or constructed from plant based materials (e.g thread, buttons, interlining).

All fabric off-cuts and scraps are retained to be reused or recycled here in Australia.

Our brand labels and size pips are made from recycled polyester.

We do not burn, cut or in any way destroy unsold garments. Our styles are seasonless and do not have an expiry date.
